There’s a lot more to caring for kittens than just cuddling these adorable furballs.

I thought one would be a handful – try caring for and training two! God bless them, they’re the cutest things, but they get into so much trouble. Counters, tables and tufts of dust bunnies are never safe from them. They’ve wiped out their food dish two or more times when sliding across the kitchen floor. Every armchair is the perfect target for their overly sharp claws.

We even got them a corner litterbox for behind the couch so that they can poop in privacy, rather than use the litterbox back in my sister’s room. We bought them new litter that’s soft on their paws, and we’re switching their food to a more expensive brand that is free of soy, gluten and grains. They’re spoiled rotten.

Kittens mostly run around crazy and then take long naps.

One of the weirder things about Tippy, the older sister (we think she is because she’s bigger), is that she will pounce on me when I try to scoop the poop out of their litterbox. She’s very protective of her poop, yet she doesn’t want a smelly litterbox. I think she wants to collect it or something.

Misha is a natural model.

Misha has made great strides as far as socializing goes. She watched Expendables 3 with me last night. She clearly likes action movies. Tippy, on the other hand, likes baseball. She’ll watch it with mom or stare at the TV when my brother is playing video games.

I also put out two sets of food and water bowls so the kitties won’t have to fight over them. And yet, they continue to shove each other out of the way when there’s a perfectly good bowl of food for the other one about two inches away. Seriously, what the heck, guys.

Tippy and Misha love looking out the window at the world.

I couldn’t live without these two, though. It’s hard to imagine life without them at this point. Two adorable kittens can’t just walk into your heart and not change your life. My anxiety is going down a little bit, but I’m still going to be anxious during training time. I’m a perfectionist, so I tend to get upset when they make a mess (not at them, but at myself because I feel like I’ve failed Litterbox 101 or whatever).

It just takes time, and I have to get comfortable with that fact. It’s an adventure having kittens.

  1. I’m happy that you’re enjoying having the kittens! They sound like a lot of work, but they are adorable! I’m sure you’re doing a great job.

    1. I’m trying, anyway! It’s hard to get work done with those two around. They’re pretty demanding for attention, and they know who the alpha mom is (me). So, naturally I’m the one they want attention from the most. lol
