As some of you read last week, I and a few others have been asking @mr_kennethcole to take down what we feel is a hurtful, grossly misinterpreted message.

Kenneth Cole puts up billboard blaming mental illness for gun violence. #givestigmatheboot

Rachel Griffin from WeHaveApples and I have started a petition to get Cole to take the billboard down, citing that it sends the wrong message about people with mental illness and incorrectly links them with being violent. Although both #gunviolence and #mentalhealthreform are both powerful issues that need to be addressed, they should have their own separate billboards rather than the one that is currently prominently displayed in Manhattan.

But we need your help to get this done! #GiveStigmaTheBoot by signing the petition to take down this harmful message. We’re about 100 signatures in, but we need many, many more for Cole to take it down. Hopefully, with enough pressure, he’ll finally realize that the message he’s sending isn’t the right one.

Thank you for your support! Please share this with everyone you know. Your signature means the world to us. 🙂

  1. I would sign the petition, but I don’t like putting my address online and everything. However, I do want the billboard to come down and I will be reblogging this post!

    1. It doesn’t show your address when you sign. It’s basically just a verification thing to prove your human. You could always put in a restaurant’s address or something. lol Thank you for reblogging and spreading the word!

  2. By the way, I think that it’s great that you started the petition! I wrote a post about it.

  3. Hmmm, I’ll think about it, but I don’t know. It’s not that I don’t want to sign it, I’m just weary about the address thing. I’ll try to find a way around it.

    1. Only if you left a comment about why you signed. But someone would have to sift through all the other comments, and there’s quite a few.
