blogging 101 who I am and why I'm here

The WordPress “Blogging 101” course starts today, so I’ll not only be posting regular blog posts, but the assignments from Blogging 101 as well. The first assignment is, as the title mentions, “Who I Am and Why I’m Here.” For those of you who have already read the My Story posts, forgive me. This post may be a little redundant.

Who I Am: Greetings, new readers. My name is Amber, and I’m a 26-year-old sufferer of mental illness. I have generalized anxiety disorder, depression, and borderline personality disorder. I also suffered an eating disorder at the age of 17, and ended up spending my 18th birthday in the hospital. Although my mental illnesses make coping every day difficult, I lead a relatively normal life otherwise. I recently left my job in retail, which was causing me so much stress I was constantly getting sick, and I now work as a freelance writer. I love Batman, coffee and binge-watching my favorite TV shows.

Why I’m Here: I’m here because I want to share my experiences with mental illness. My blog is a day-by-day journey to better management of my anxiety, as well as my depression and BPD. This blog is a cathartic experience for me, but my goal is also to help others who may be struggling. I want to build a community of acceptance on this blog that is stigma-free. Mental illness is incredibly hard for some people to talk about, and I want this blog to be a place where those suffering mental health issues can freely speak about whatever troubles them. I provide faith-based posts from a Christian viewpoint, so if that’s not your cup of tea, I won’t take offense if you skip this blog. But I do hope you’ll stay. 🙂

That’s it for today, Blogging 101! I’ll be posting my regular blog post later today, so keep an eye out for it. Thanks for reading!

  1. Hi Amber! Nice to meet you. I love the layout and look of your blog. I understand what it’s like to suffer from anxiety. Looking forward to reading more of your posts.

    1. Thank you so much, Tasha! Yeah, anxiety actually surpassed depression as the most common mental illness in America. Not sure about other countries’ demographics on that, but for the US, it’s a pretty big deal. Let me know if you need anything, or if you just want to talk, check out my contact section. I listed my email there. 🙂

  2. I want to thank you again for sharing your experiences and I continue to wish you all the best in your blogging and journey to be free of anxiety or at least learn how to manage it.

I also have a question. Are you making money by freelance writing in any way? I want to learn how to do that.

  3. Hello Amber,
Loved this introduction, and love that you will be writing from a Christian perspective. I’m praying for your father and for you to receive healing. You are very brave to confront this issue head on in such a public way. It’s the public walk, that will inspire many.

    God bless you.
