about me pictures mental health anxiety blog

Welcome to my blog! I’m Amber, your hostess tour guide a fellow blogger/human being who just so happens to have mental health issues.

From an early age, I’ve always been the weird kid. I grew up in a Christian household (Lutheran, if you must know) and though I’ve had a bit of a falling out with my faith, I’m happy to say I’ve found my way back. But it was pretty rough for awhile.

I’ve always been the smart kid in my class. I was precocious and started reading from a very early age. I still wasn’t able to outdo my mother, though, who would finish all of her homework halfway through the year and would then just sit in class reading books. She was pretty hardcore.

I developed anorexia nervosa when I was 17, and I had the pleasure of spending my 18th birthday in a hospital. Shortly after my release, I began seeing my therapist who had diagnosed me with anorexia regularly, who then also diagnosed me with depression, generalized anxiety disorder and borderline personality disorder.

I’m now 32, and although I’m free of my eating disorder, I still struggle with the other three diagnoses. It’s why I started this blog. This is my outlet where I can talk freely about what it’s like to be mentally ill. I’ve enjoyed enormous support from my fellow bloggers, and I’ve even been able to help some of those who are struggling with mental health issues. This blog has also helped my family to better understand what I’m going through. They’ve been a huge support, and you can read more about them here.

My goal with this blog is to chronicle my journey to freeing myself from the chains of my mental illness, in particular my anxiety. It’s going to be a long journey, but it will be worth it in the end. Hopefully, along the way, I’ll be able to help others as well. <3

  1. I love the redesign, Amber! Also, thank you so much for writing this blog and helping me through my struggles! You’re so kind! 🙂

    1. You’re welcome, dear! And thank you! It’s not completely done yet, but I couldn’t wait to use the new header. I love it so much. ^_^

  2. This is great that you are writing about your experience in life. When people write, it helps them, but the added gift is that it helps others also. Cool idea!

    1. Thank you. :’) I don’t know about brave… I prefer the term outspoken. 😉 I’m just tired of hiding who I am and trying to pretend I’m “normal”. I’m not proud of having a mental illness, but I’m at peace with it. It’s okay to be this way! I’m different, not crazy. ^_^
